ADMISSIONS

The Met seeks motivated and curious learners who are eager to pursue their passions in a real world setting. Met students take ownership of their learning and develop academic skills by exploring a variety of interests, including but not limited to medicine, law, business, art, fashion, music, and education.

Students come to The Met for many of reasons. Some want a more personalized high school experience that challenges them academically. Others are attracted to our college preparatory program, while still others want the hands-on, action-packed learning that internships can offer. Regardless of their reasons for enrolling, The Met’s personalized approach offers something for every kind of learner.

As a public, state-funded school, The Met accepts all students through a random lottery system, which occurs in March. We are mandated to accept 75% of our student body from the city of Providence and the remaining 25% from the rest of Rhode Island.

We invite you to browse these pages and learn about the Met philosophy, our college preparatory program, travel opportunities, and our learning through interests program.
The Met engages students and their families in all aspects of the application, admission, and educational process. In order to apply to the Met, students and their parents or guardians must complete the following steps.

To apply for the current 2011-2012 school year, download and print the application:

Met Application

To apply for the 2012-2013 school year, follow the outline below:

Step 1: Download and print the application:

Student_Application_2012-13

Step 2: Complete parts 1 to 4 of this application and mail or fax to the Met via the instructions below.

Step 3: Read and sign the top section of part 5 (and part 6, if applicable). Then, give it to your guidance counselor or principal to complete and return with the necessary documents to the Met.
Please Note: It is your responsibility to make sure that you sign the Release of Records form(s), part(s) 5 (and 6), and provide it (them) to your school. Your guidance counselor should then attach the appropriate records back to the form(s), and send them directly to the Met – without this information your application will be incomplete.

Step 4: Attend an Open House. Open Houses during the 2008-2009 school year have been posted. Attending an Open House gives you a chance to understand more about our school culture and learning environment.

Step 5: If you have sent in the completed application by the due date, you will be considered for the lottery and/or acceptance.

Step 6: Once you have been chosen by lottery, you will be invited for an interview with an advisor, or Met staff member, to assure that the Met is the right school for you. You will receive a letter in the mail informing you of the meeting location, date and time.

Step 7: After preliminary acceptance, you should mail or fax your final report card and diploma as proof of completion of the 8th grade to the address below.
Please Note: Grade 10 and 11 applicants only – complete the application with the understanding that you will be placed on an interest list until a vacancy occurs.

Step 8: All incoming students will attend a two week Summer Infusion Program in late June and early July. This is an orientation program for incoming students that eases their transition to the Met.

Step 9: Attend a New Family Orientation Night one week before school starts in August.
